In Halifax around 5 years ago, a tragic murder occurred. Jason McCrae killed his wife with the aid of a two-by-four after an argument over a credit card. After a long arduous investigation, McCrae has finally admitted to the gruesome act.
This is a violation of the most basic and fundamental civil rights. Every person has the right to live and no one can take that away from them, it cannot be thrown away as a minor right, it is the right to live it is the keystone that keeps society together. Jason McCrae failed to fulfill his responsibilities morally and physically. There is no excuse for the killing of a human and it is your utmost responsibility to ensure such things don’t happen.
Another right that was violated that day was that of their baby daughter. Every child has the right to a good and firm set of parents, and Jason McCrae violated that by killing and disrupting the family union.
I believe that killing for no reason and in retaliation for a minor fact, e.g a credit card, is one of the lowest levels to witch a human being can morally fall. Murders like this should be punished severely, and they already are.

I agree with you, everyone has a right to live and shouldnt be killed by someone they trust. The wife however shouldn't have taken her husbands credit card and charged it for gambling. The man could have easily devorced this women rather than killing her.
I totally agree with you, reckless murdering should be severely punished, especially fighting over a minor reason: Credit Card. Although the wife shouldn't have taken her husband's credit card, she did not deserve to die; no one should deserve to die. There are better alternatives to solve this problem: divorce, a calm fair debate etc. Despite the cruel act, I was relieved that the husband finally knew his wrong doings even though it was brutal and immoral; he should deserve serious punishment even though he turned himself in.
I believe the best alternative is to educate the future in order to prevent any murder from happening as much as possible.
I agree with all those that have posted on this matter, and believe that, as Justin said, "reckless murdering" should be more severely punished. That said, I'm not sure how much more severe you could be other than to sentence him to a longer prison term than he was already given. The Crown says that the man should get twenty years in prison, while the defense is arguing for twelve. I think that he should get even longer than this, because of the cause of the murder. It was over a seven hundred dollar gambling loss on the internet. I'm sure that, at some time or another, the murderer spent more than seven hundred dollars on something, but his wife never killed him for it. I know that, coming from a middle class family, that seven hundred dollars doesn't seem like a ton of money, but for these two, it may have been.
